OpenAI says it has cancelled a Pro 200 reduction it announced in a 29 September email and doubled the Work and Codex allowance on its Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans, according to a ChatGPT release-notes entry dated 29 October 2026.

What changed

The entry is headed "More Work and Codex usage on Pro and Business Premium Plans". It says:

  • "Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans now include twice their previous Work and Codex allowance."
  • "We’ve also canceled the Pro 200 reduction announced in our September 29 email."
  • Pro 200 subscribers who already had the higher Work and Codex allowance keep it. From 29 October, those "on the lower allowance get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance, bringing them up to the same limit."

OpenAI's "About ChatGPT Pro tiers" help page adds that existing subscribers "receive it automatically without waiting for renewal", that "Plus usage is unchanged", and that for Pro 200 "Your subscription price stays at $200/month." It also cautions: "A larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks."

The same page says the chat message limits move differently: "Pro 100 and Pro 500 keep their current weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat", while on Pro 200 "the lower weekly limit now matches the higher one."

The cut that is now off

On 29 September 2026 the release notes said "Pro 200 is available for new subscriptions again at $200/month" and that "Included usage allowances are changing." Affected users, the note said, "will receive an email with additional details." That entry does not say how large the change was, and we have not seen the email.

What OpenAI has not said

  • Business Premium: the 29 October entry says OpenAI is "increasing the Work and Codex usage included in Pro and Business Premium plans", but it gives a multiplier only for the Pro plans. No figure is stated for Business Premium.
  • End date: neither the release-notes entry nor the Pro tiers page gives an end date for the larger allowances, and neither describes them as temporary.
  • UK pricing: the Pro tiers page lists the plans in US dollars ($100, $200 and $500 a month). The pricing page, as we were able to read it, showed dollar prices only. Sterling prices are not stated in anything we read.

Dots and the UK

A separate entry dated 28 October says texting your dot "is starting to roll out in beta to Pro users in the U.S." OpenAI's 29 September note introducing dots said "Pro access excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK at launch."

Why it matters

On our reading, this reverses within a month a change OpenAI flagged on 29 September, and the 29 October note goes further by raising allowances on the other two Pro tiers. On our reading, what the larger allowance means for any one subscriber will vary: OpenAI's own help page says "The amount of work you can complete still depends on the model, task, and settings." For Business Premium customers, the size of the increase is still unstated.
