Reported 8 June 2026 — treat as funding talks, not a closed round.

China's Moonshot AI, the company behind the Kimi chatbot, is in early talks to raise as much as $2bn at a $30bn valuation, according to Bloomberg. It would be the startup's third financing in six months — and a roughly sevenfold increase from the ~$4bn it was worth in December.

The timing is striking: the new talks have reportedly begun just as Moonshot is on the verge of closing a separate round, led by Meituan, that valued it at $20bn. Driving the surge is real commercial traction — Kimi's annual recurring revenue is said to have crossed $100m in early March (after its K2.5 model) and $200m by April.

Why it matters: A Chinese lab 7x-ing its valuation in half a year is a hard signal that China's AI funding race is intensifying, not cooling — and that the capital chasing OpenAI's rivals is increasingly global.
