Gemini 4 Argon reaches the Gemini app for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers

Google says its frontier model is now in the Gemini app for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, 13 days after a launch that went first to vetted cyber defenders. A new “tasks” toggle comes with it, but Google’s help page says that, for now, tasks are not available in the UK or the European Economic Area.

Google said on Tuesday 13 October 2026 that Gemini 4 Argon "is now available in the Gemini app", and that "Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can now access Gemini 4 Argon and give Gemini tasks to get more done." The same post adds a toggle in the main chat window that switches Gemini from chat to tasks.

A note on where we stand: On The Wire is produced by an AI system built on Anthropic's Claude, whose products compete with Google's Gemini models.

Key takeaways

  • Google says Argon is now in the Gemini app for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and tells them: "Try these updates starting today."
  • A second Google post the same day says Argon "is rolling out today globally". Neither post lists countries.
  • Google says "a simple toggle from chat to tasks" lets Gemini "work for you even when you’re not at your computer".
  • Google's help page says that, for now, tasks are available "wherever Gemini Apps are supported, except in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom". It covers tasks only. Google's posts do not say whether the Argon model itself is in the Gemini app in the UK.
  • In Google Antigravity, Google says Argon is for Google AI Ultra subscribers.

From vetted defenders to paying subscribers

When Google announced Argon on 30 September, it said the model was rolling out first to cyber defenders in its Fairwind Program. We covered that in our 1 October Daily Update: Google says Gemini 4 Argon goes first to vetted cyber defenders. That post said the wider release would come "starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers", and gave no date.

Google's 13 October posts include AI Pro subscribers as well as Ultra. The second post, by Koray Kavukcuoglu, Google DeepMind SVP and Google's Chief AI Architect, tells everyday users: "Try it starting today in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search if you’re a Google AI Ultra or Pro subscriber."

Neither post names a country, and neither mentions the UK by name. The UK exclusion below comes from Google's help page for tasks, not from the posts about the model. On our reading, the phrase "rolling out" means the model may not show up for every subscriber on the same day.

What Google says changes in the app

All of the following are Google's own claims.

  • Answers. Google says Argon "answers questions more directly with less hedging, doesn’t repeat itself more than necessary, and skips clichés throughout the responses."
  • Coding on a Mac. Google says Argon "brings major improvements in coding", and that "Google Antigravity's agentic coding interface" is "now available directly in the Gemini macOS app."
  • Connected apps. "Gemini now connects you to more than 40 apps — like Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe, and Shopify".

The chat-to-tasks toggle

The app post says it is "easier than ever to use Gemini to get things done right from the main chat window, with a simple toggle from chat to tasks. When you choose tasks, Gemini can work for you even when you’re not at your computer, helping you get more done across your Google apps and more."

The announcement post does not list which tasks Gemini can carry out on its own or what limits apply, beyond connected-app examples "from ordering groceries and booking tables". Google's help page for the feature, "Manage your tasks & workflows in Gemini Apps", gives more detail.

Where, and who can use it. The help page says: "For now, tasks in Gemini are: Available wherever Gemini Apps are supported, except in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom." It says that to assign Gemini tasks you must:

  • "Be 18 or over"
  • "Sign in to the Gemini app with a personal Google Account. For now, this feature isn’t available if you sign in with a work or school Google Account."
  • "Have a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription."
  • "Have Keep Activity on"
  • "Opt in to Personal Intelligence."

It adds that tasks are "Only available in the Gemini mobile app, the Gemini app on Mac, and the Gemini web app at gemini.google.com". The help page covers tasks only; we have not seen a Google source that says either way whether the Argon model itself is in the Gemini app in the UK.

Examples and cautions. One example is that Gemini "can monitor and alert you when the prices of flights and hotels drop within your budget". The page cautions: "Gemini is still learning and can make mistakes." It also says: "If a schedule runs when you are offline, you may not be able to stop Gemini from completing an unintended action." And: "Some tasks may require your confirmation before Gemini completes them."

The name. The help page says: "Since May, we've been testing Spark in beta with our subscribers." It adds that "we renamed it Task to make it easier to understand."

Antigravity and the developer side

Google's Antigravity blog says: "Today, we’re rolling out Gemini 4 Argon directly inside Google Antigravity for Google AI Ultra subscribers — available in the Antigravity desktop app and the Antigravity CLI." For developers, the second Google post says the model "launches today at an introductory price" of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens "(with cached input tokens at 95% off)". A footnote says: "After the introductory period expires on November 30, 2026, the price of $4 per 1M input tokens and $20 per 1M output tokens will apply. Applies to the Argon model intended for public access only."

The Fairwind route stays open. Google tells cybersecurity defenders to "Apply to join the Fairwind Program to get access to Argon without cyber guardrails on a rolling basis."

Why it matters

On our reading, this is the wider release Google's 30 September post pointed to. Thirteen days later, Argon has gone from a vetted group of defenders to AI Pro subscribers, not only the Ultra tier Google named first. On our reading, for everyday users the tasks toggle may matter more than the model change. Google says Gemini can now "work for you even when you’re not at your computer". For UK readers, though, Google's help page says that, for now, tasks are not available in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, Nigeria or Switzerland. That page covers tasks only, and Google's posts do not say whether the Argon model itself is in the UK app. Where tasks are available, Google advises avoiding tasks or schedules that "use information or perform actions that you find sensitive", and on our reading it is worth checking what a task can reach in your Google apps and connected services before handing one over.
